A living wage isn’t privilege

I am so frustrated with people complaining about the bad service, it wasn't fast enough, mistakes were made, sometimes it was an issue that was out of their control, many reasons, that they got at a 'fast food' joint and then saying: "These idiots don't deserve $15 an hour." Let me help you understand something here, Crackus:
1. It's a fast food joint, if you want something better go to a better restaurant.
2. Their pay is not based solely on service to your McWhopper cravin' ass, it is based on A LIVING WAGE
Do you know that term?
It means the ability to live off of what you make. It is something many Americans can't do at these minimum wage jobs.
3.They are sometimes trying to serve 10 people at once and half the time are being told to do it as quick as they can- mistakes happen.
If you don’t like it, see point #1.
"Bu bu bu Kodee, After school kids don't need to live..."

Let’s clarify something; not only do pimply-voice-changing teens drop something resembling food into boiling grease, so do retirees, and people supporting families. That last one is important. Have you ever tried to be a single parent supporting kids when your only qualification is to ask someone if you want fries with that?  How about a single person trying to make ends meet on two jobs that barely cover costs. I have.
Not to mention they have to deal with asshole customers all day

In Portland Oregon the minimum wage is $9.10 an hour which won’t help you cover the costs for a median priced ONE BEDROOM apartment, “The average price for a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Portland is around $1,751, while the average one bedroom in inner Southeast Portland runs closer to $1,051, while Hillsboro apartments average $977, the Norris, Beggs & Simpson report stated.” According to GoLocalPDX
Your minimum wage job nets you approximately $1,456.00 (before taxes) a month (give or take pay periods).  This monthly paycheck wouldn’t even cover electricity, water, gas, garbage oh and FOOD, I hear that’s important. I will tell you now, those that say we need to get people off the welfare system, THIS IS WHY THEY’RE ON IT.
At $15.00 an hour, a monthly check would amount to around $2,400.  It helps to solve a lot of those issues I mentioned.

This doesn’t work the best for small business, and in Seattle some went under when this was implemented. Several others simply scaled back hours and people had to look for a second job. There are ways to make this work. Will it be easy? No. But unless the housing prices drop (and no one wants to do that) then we need to be paid accordingly.
So the next time you hear someone bitch about the fact people earning a living wage isn’t fair simply because the girl at Harbee’s didn’t get you the right coke, check yourself. We all deserve a place to live.
